A Mumbling in the Mountains

by Brion Riborn

1.
God was born on Easter but he died on Christmas morning On the day this hit me, Santa didn’t bring me a damn thing People gathered round and they were rapt in adulation As I made my last confession to the empty pews beneath Support was in the shadows As the light hung from the gallows And breadcrumbs fed the bunnies at the keep In the house of milk and honey Jokes they make just ain’t that funny Judgement is the punch line of the weak Sometimes disappearing is just another way of saying we’re exhausted but we’re trying So please give us a damn break If you feel what we’ve given ain’t a way to make a living Just ignore us, let us fade away And then we’ll go to sleep Let the earth become our pillows And our headboard a great willow Our blanket be the fresh dew covered peat We will linger in the lilies Though our song will reach the valley As we whisper from the highest mountain peak
2.
Four Stones 03:30
Four stones underneath the pale blue sky These bones may they last forever Cast all to the river’s raging life So cold though it’s feeling better Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm These tones fill the cracks inside the heart I know they won’t last forever Cast all to the river’s raging life So cold but it makes you stronger Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I don’t wanna give away my soul I don’t wanna face the weather I know that I haven’t got a choice I know that it’s now or never

She caught my hand as I fell for her And she gave me a balloon And we floated up in the atmosphere And we wont be landing soon And the world's so small As I gaze on down below And I wish that I Had half a mind To say what i now know The agony deep inside of me Was waiting to explode And it left me here with a useless string But I'm never letting go And the world's ablaze As we fall down from above And I wish that I Had half a heart To see that this is love We clasp our hands Just to keep from making fists Our voices raise Though we try hard to resist When arguments bring apologies They begin to prove what's real Cuz the oceans and the heavens Are much more than what we fear Such heights and depths Oh and nothing's what it seems But I wish that I Had half a life To spend in both extremes Just half a life To spend in both extremes

about

This album was written and recorded in the Smoky Mountains of Sevierville, TN in about 10 hours around Easter Sunday 2021. With the exception of "The Balloon Song" I wrote years before, but finally properly recorded during my time in the mountains. All these songs come together to tell the story of the mountain as it was given to me.

There was so much beauty in the nature all around, but construction could still be heard in the distance if you listened for it. I captured a lot of this in the song, "The Outlook". All the sounds on this album were recorded on that mountain. The birds you hear were there with me. There was a natural sound to the space where I recorded. You hear it in this album from the start, but as the story plays out, it is altered and less "natural"... and yet still beautiful. I don't relisten to my albums often, but this one has been on repeat for me whenever I need to let go and get out of my head. I like it a lot. I hope you do too.

I recommend listening to the whole 23 mins at once, but feel free to shuffle away, if that's your thing. Be sure to let me know how the story plays out in a different sequence.

This album won't come to all the other streaming services until a later date.

Brion Riborn is a human of Germanic-Norse descent. He tries to create and direct good things. He tires of being referred to in the third person in bios. He thinks they are silly but understands why they exist. He hopes the music makes you feel something. He appreciates the time you take to listen. He doesn’t sleep much, except when he does. He knows his sense of humor isn’t for everyone. ... more
